Jehovah's Witnesses, sports, smoking, modelling - in fact absolutely anything gets a roasting when notorious Darren ‘Whackhead Simpson' is around. Born and bred in Durban, this coastal boy took his first comedy steps on the sticky grounds of seedy comedy clubs. His knack for causing stomach stitches in turn-around time catapulted his career.

Today Darren is a regular at theatre and comedy concerts where he shares his ‘whacky' sense of humour with thousands of people. He's also hugely in demand on the corporate scene. Darren recently played to a 6 100 sell out crowd at Carnival City Casino doing stand-up comedy and MC'ing the event. 2003 saw his appearance on Comedy Showcase on SABC3.

That year also saw him sell-out an eight night run at the Durban theatre. He has been interviewed on TV and is also a sketch actor for SABC 1's Pure Monate Show. 2004 he rocked the Late Show with Darren Scott on MNET performing stand-up.

Despite his young age this is Darren's 10th year working in radio. Between his busy comedy schedule, he is currently co-host of the Rude Awakening Breakfast Show with Jeremy Mansfield on 94.7 Highveld Stereo. And that's not all. In December 2004 and 2005, 94.7 Highveld Stereo released ‘The Best of Whackhead's Phone Pranks' on CD. It remained on the best sellers' charts for five weeks, holding off Britney Spears Greatest Hits and Robbie Williams Greatest Hits.

Both CDs have celebrated gold status. He has acted as co-presenter and is one of the writers and head pranksters for M-Net's comedy show ‘Laugh out Loud'. 94.7 Highveld Stereo released a 2nd CD titled ‘The Best of Whackhead's Phone Pranks' in December 2005. The CD achieved gold status in just three weeks.
